The Belarusian State University of Transport runs three contests in engineering mechanics for students: a theory contest (individual and team events), a ‘brain ring’ team contest and a computer team contest. Problem selection for these contests is described in this paper, along the organizational aspects are considered, along with the approach to the checking of solutions. Some examples of problems are presented, including some which have caused difficulties for the participations.
