Max Born offered a ‘magic square’ from which the Maxwell's relations – the interconnection of dependent and independent thermodynamic variable pairs such as pressure and temperature, entropy and volume – could be derived. I offer an adaptation of Born's square in the form of a mnemonic employing the well known phrase s'il vous plait. In the form S'il Vous – PlaiT, the capitalised letters form the square and the ungrammatical hyphen is to bring out the necessary sign convention.
