Theoretical analysis of the varactor tuning bandwidth characteristics of single and two-coupled resonant circuits with practical recommendations is presented. Highly linear octave-band operation was found to be possible using hyperabrupt varactors in two-coupled resonant circuits. Such a simple analytic approach is useful for practical wideband linear transistor VCO design.
