Abstract
In 2006 the National Library of New Zealand (NLNZ) began a major initiative to reposition itself as a modern, agile and relevant contributor to the cultural, social and economic life of New Zealand. Since 2010 our main Wellington building has been undergoing comprehensive redevelopment and staff have been located in temporary premises. The redevelopment of the Wellington building has a total budget of NZ$64.5 million. Since 2011 the National Library of New Zealand has been under new management. Along with New Zealand's national archives, the NLNZ is now an integrated part of the Department of Internal Affairs, working alongside teams responsible for all-of-government ICT strategy and delivery. NLNZ and Archives NZ are collaborating on the relocation of the Treaty of Waitangi into the revamped ground floor of the National Library. The transformed joint-use building will reopen in stages from August 2012.
