Abstract
Tourism in Hungary is a key economic activity, as the travel and tourism industry is a net contributor to the growth of the Hungarian economy. However, the inflow of foreign capital has significantly contributed to the development of Hungarian tourism over the past decade, and the country's tourism industry continues to depend on external economic factors. This paper presents the findings of a survey carried out in 2004 to supplement industry data with an assessment of travel behaviour and to develop a comparison between the theoretical assumptions of the existing literature and the empirical results in the study area (Hungary).
