Rules are everywhere. “Do this.” “Don't do that.” Gifted students—indeed, all students—are surrounded by and coexist with a plethora of rules. Their lives in school are, in large measure, defined by rules. Most gifted students choose to obey these rules, but why? To avoid punishment? To curry favor with teachers? To pursue their best interests?
