Abstract
In order to evaluate the effectiveness of transcutaneous electrical stimulation in low back pain, the results obtained with a group of patients were analyzed and related to etiology, pathophysiological mechanisms and clinical aspects. Better clinical results were observed in those patients in whom trigger points were present and peripheral afferent fibers had not been damaged. The therapeutic action of electrical stimulation in those patients is probably due to a modification of pathological reflexes originating from the trigger points.
