Abstract
Reasons for the new editorial procedure, which is expected to take place in the latter part of 1980 are discussed. By accepting camera-ready manuscripts, the journal will be published more rapidly while maintaining the highest scientific standards. Historical significance of the first well-organized international symposia on acupuncture held 1n Peking during June 1979 is discussed. More than 534 basic scientists and clinicians from all over the People's Republic of China presented various aspects of their research. In addition, 58 foreign clinicians and researchers representing about twenty different countries also presented their papers as guests of the Chinese government. Experts of both traditional Chinese medicine and Western medical research on acupuncture participated in the symposia. The symposia were followed by free tours of major medical institutes of different cities, which provided excellent opportunities for the exchange of ideas and for seeing what is happening 1n basic and clinical research in the field of acupuncture 1n the People's Republic of China. It is worth noting that treatment by both manual and electro-acupuncture is playing a major role 1n China's mass medical care system.
