New law controlling the practice of Acupuncture in the U.S.A., particularly in New York State, and reasons for the necessity of such regulations are explained. In New York State, only licensed physicians with a minimum of 100 accredited hours of training in acupuncture are eligible for obtaining a certificate to use acupuncture under approved research protocol. The new law in New York State also makes provision for non-physicians to be licensed as “physicians’ assistants.”
