Abstract
Fifty surgical open-heart procedures are reported. (Total number of cases 125 by March 1975). The specific difference between the classical Chinese method and the procedure performed in our department consist of the addition of general anesthesia and tracheal intubation to acupuncture analgesia and represents a combination of modern anesthesiology and acupuncture. Important advantages over routine anesthesia techniques with pharmacological agents were demonstrated especially in patients at risk undergoing open heart surgery. Furthermore we were able to considerably reduce the prescription of analgesics in the postoperative stage.
