Abstract
Acupuncture originated in China more than 2500 years ago. Acupuncture is an important part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and is a component of the health care system of China. Al that time acupuncture was used to treat some diseases, among them to relieve pain is the most effective. On the basis of acupuncture analgesia (AA), some hospitals in Shanghai have applied acupuncture to perform surgical operations in 1958. We have been very much interested in why operation could be done under acupuncture anesthesia.
