Abstract
The Unified File System was developed to facilitate data transfer from one system to another and to help secure the description of the file, find the data needed and re-use the data. Three basic facts about the system are the following.
Firstly, the system runs in the mainframe environment, but we have plans to build a similar system that would run in the PC-Network environment.
Secondly, the metadata is stored in two places: in the metadata system and at the beginning of each file.
Thirdly, the structure of a Unified File is such that it is possible to store basic data or aggregated data (microdata or macrodata) in the system.
