Abstract
Planning of statistical surveys is done in every country regardless of its social and economic system. Its main objectives are to satisfy information needs of users and to organize statistical surveys in the best possible way. The main problem is to account for knowledge and experience of various groups of users. Practical solutions of problems can be based on the experience of the Central Statistical Office of Poland and selected other CMEA countries and Yugoslavia in this field. The approaches differ considerably despite common objectives, among which the following are emphasized: integration and stabilization of surveys, rational distribution of tasks, information on what data can be provided to the users, etc. Long-term planning has in some countries a high legal status. The contents and structure of the programmes /plans/ of statistical surveys anticipate future information needs mainly through analyses and consultations. The objective conditions determine differentiation of forms of and methods for the preparation of programmes, and an optimal unique method is not available.
