Abstract
The Conference of European Statisticians has been actively involved in the elaboration of the System of National Accounts (SNA), as well as in its 1968 revision. Regarding the development and evolution of the System of Statistical Balances of the National Economy (MPS), a permanent dialogue was established and maintained between the CMEA Standing Commission on Co-operation in the Field of Statistica and the Conference.
The role of the Conference in the current SNA revisions and its future work may focus on problems of SNA/MPS linkage. The Conference provides a framework also for practical inter-system comparisons, which were and are being carried out between ECE member countries. Further-more, the Conference will be able to develop further the relations between national accounts and balances on one side and neighbouring fields of statistics. Co-ordination can be achieved at both the conceptual and the technical levels. However, the problems encountered depend not only on the system of national accounting in use, but also on the specific factors of the neighbouring fields of statistics.
