Abstract
The problem area of ‘statistical information systems design’ can be discussed on two levels: (i) the individual application system level – how to design a system for a specific branch of statistics; (ii) the nationwide level – how to design one unified statistical information system for a country. The matter was discussed at the ISIS'84 Seminar on the basis of papers from several statistical offices. The new development of a particular software at Statistics Sweden (‘Dirigenten’), trying to cope with the co-ordination of user interfaces, responds to one important aspect of SIS design.
