Abstract
The ECE's Statistical Publication Programme comprises both recurrent and ad hoc statistical publications. The source material is provided directly by countries on questionnaire forms. Problems arising from differences in coverage, late arrivals, non-comparability between data etc., are mostly solved by contacting national authorities directly. Considerable efforts are being made to publish statistics conforming to standard definitions and to supply more complete and up-to-date material. In some cases problems are persisting, particularly in requirements for more specific indicators or synthetic parameters. A close co-operation within the UN information system as well as with other international organizations in this field is indispensable.
A comprehensive review of statistical bulletins relating to energy statistics, statistics of world trade in engineering products and statistical indicators of short-term economic changes in ECE countries is under way.
