Abstract
The Conference of European Statisticians is actively involved in the international development of environment statistics. The Conference's contribution aims at a clarification of the forms in which such frameworks could be cast. The development of standard classifications for land use, water use and quality, air quality and fauna/flora statistics constitutes the second objective. Finally, methodological questions arising in the collection and compilation of environment statistics are discussed in detail.
Current work on energy statistics focusses on the development of statistical tools in response to information needs, which mainly emerge from energy conservation concerns. Here again, methodological questions are subjects for discussion, primarily in connection with statistics on new and renewable forms of energy.
