Developing international statistical standards: The system of national accounts as a case study

Abstract

Obtaining broad consensus to new or updated international statistical standards is not a simple matter. This article describes the governance and process arrangements adopted in the recent update of the UN System of National Accounts and draws out some factors which might be followed in other circumstances of international statistical standards work.
