Synthesis and structural characterization of the neutral π-bridged,In-In bonded indium(II) amide dimer [(In{N(Dipp)SiMe $_{3}$ }) $_{2}$ (μ $_{2}$ -η $^{1}$ :η $^{1}$ C $_{5}$ H $_{5}$ ) (μ $_{2}$ -η $^{1}$ :η $^{2}$ C $_{5}$ H $_{5}$ )] (Dipp=2,6 diisopropylphenyl)

Abstract

The synthesis of the low valent In-In bonded indium amide dimer [(In{N(Dipp)SiMe $_{3}$ }) $_{2}$ (μ $ _{2}$ -η $ ^{1}$ :η $ ^{1}$ C $_{5}$ H $_{5}$ )(μ $ _{2}$ -η $^{1}$ : η $ ^{2 }$ C $_{5}$ H $_{5}$ )] (Dipp=2,6 diisopropylphenyl) (1) is reported. The complex was synthesized by the addition of [LiN(Dipp) (SiMe $_{3})$ ] $_{2}$ to In(η $ ^{5}$ >-C $_{5}$ H $_{5}$ ), which led to (1) apparently via a disproportionation reaction. The structure of (1) features a unique bridging of the In-In bond via two cyclopentadienyl ligands and has a short metal-metal distance of 2.7146(3)Å. Complex (1) is a unique example of a low valent indium amido species stabilized by monodentate amide ligands.
