The reactions of Me 2 AsS 2 Na·2H 2 O and Me 2 As(S)-S-AsMe 2 with Cu(II) and Tl(III): Reaction products and probable mechanisms

Abstract

The reaction of Me₂AsS₂Na·2H₂O with CuCl₂·2H₂O and Cu(AcO)₂·H₂O gave the complex Me₂AsS₂Cu but with Tl(AcO)₃ gave (Me₂AsS₂)₃Tl, while the reaction of Bunsen's cacodyl disulfide, Me₂As(S)-S-AsMe₂, with Cu(AcO)₂·H₂O and Tl(AcO)₃ gave Me₂AsS₂Cu and Me₂AsS₂Tl. Identification of the by-products by TLC and ¹H NMR lead to probable mechanisms for these reactions postulating two novel radicals: Me₂As(S)-S^• and (Me₂As = S)^•.
