Abstract
Examples of early formal and informal efforts of the disabled community to organize for self-determination are examined and highlighted. The theme of the disabled community organizing for self-determination is investigated through a more contemporary look at the formal establishment of disability-related organizations. The Encyclopedia of Associations: An Unlimited Reference is used to identify disability-related organizations. These disability-related organizations are analyzed using several variables to better comprehend factors behind their formation.
