CESIMAS: A Self-adaptive MAS toward improved Critical Infrastructure protection

Abstract

At the core of every organisation is a set of electronic assets that enables an organisation to perform its daily operations. This Critical Infrastructure (CI) forms the fundamental core of the organisation. CI is dynamic in nature, with electronic and information assets consistently changing states, and creating new information. Conventional protection mechanisms have failed to ensure effective protection, and the critical environments have dynamic states which change consistently. Organisations heavily rely on CI to support daily operations. The hinderance of such CI can have several negative impacts. To mitigate risks, organisations should look elsewhere for more adaptive solutions which are geared towards the protection of CI. This paper proposes a Continual Evaluative Self-aware Immune-inspired Multi Agent Critical Information Infrastructure Protection System (CESIMAS). The purpose of the CESIMAS model is to establish a self-aware, and self-adaptive MAS in which agents can adapt their behaviour given internal and external stimuli, enabling more effective responses and an improved level of CI protection.
