Abstract
This paper introduces a special issue of the Journal of Economic and Social Measurement on U.S. Regional Economic Indicator Models. It describes recent research on such models, both specifically and in the context of general research on economic indicators, and provides some references. The six papers of this special issue represent a selection from the papers presented at a conference held in Braga, Portugal at the Universidad do Minho 7--10 June 1998, a purpose of which was to bring together scholars from Europe, North America, and South America to consider issues in the construction of indicator models.
