Abstract
This paper characterizes a newly designed biaxial extensometer which is capable of measuring radial deformation of circular porous materials under simultaneous hydro-compression loading conditions. The biaxial extensometer sensitivity is calculated using finite-element model, and the calculated sensitivity is verified through experimental calibration. Result shows that the biaxial extensometer responses linearly to an extremely large deformation ranging from −10 mm to 10 mm. Furthermore, it can be reliably operated under high hydrostatic pressure environment.
