Abstract
Three-dimensional novel mixed-order tetrahedral elements are systematically constructed and applied to the finite element analysis of electromagnetic fields. The degree of freedoms of the shape functions assigned on the six edges are essentially independent with each other. The shape functions on the faces and in the volume are not orthogonal with those of the edges. So, the tetrahedral elements proposed in this paper have six parameters to define the shape functions. A smooth eddy current flow in the conductor can be obtained, under the condition not to needlessly increase the total number of unknowns.
