Abstract
A numerical method was developed for modeling acoustic standing waves emerging in high-pressure discharge lamps. The applied model takes the inhomogeneous distribution of propagation velocity into account, which is caused by the temperature profile. Arc physics was not considered. Software was implemented based on the finite element method. In addition to the sole computation of waves in some practical arrangements, also the validity of the applied model was investigated.
