Abstract
This article examines usability implications of emerging e-content environments, which are characterized by integrated support for multiple publication types, including e-journals, e-books and e-reference works. The article begins by examining the many ways in which the emerging environments for accessing scholarly information are evolving from the traditional environment. User behavior in e-content environments is examined, creating a clearer picture of the end user's experience. Finally, recommendations are made for improving the e-content user experience to better match user needs and behaviors, including enhancing content discovery, findability, and content consumption, supporting monitoring behavior, and promoting return traffic.
