Abstract
This paper describes the implementation of Mini-MALIMET (a conventional thesaurus available on magnetic tape) as a searching thesaurus for CLEAR, RETRIEVE and EMSCOPES, (Hoffmann-La Roche Inc. Bibliographic Databases) on TRIP/TDBS text architecture database management system. Topics discussed include: the role of thesauri in information retrieval; the influence of vocabulary on performance of information retrieval systems; user needs; and the enhancement of conventional thesauri for searching of natural language databases. Illustrations in tabular form and an extensive bibliography are included.
