Abstract
Business information, especially if available online, provides a fundamental tool for the development of a company strategy. To this aim, information shall not be restricted in research or documentation units, but must flow freely within the company. The collection and analysis of information external and internal to the company shall become a habit. The primary role of the documentation center must then be re-focused insuring the circulation of the information and its merger with the internal MIS. The production of information, typical of the past, must evolve into production of knowledge, enabling companies to better forecast, interpret and meet society's requirements.
