Abstract
The National Reference Centre for Environmental Information in the Netherlands could serve as a model for the construction of a country contribution to an environment and health metadatabase. In the light of this, the outline and rationale of the present system are reviewed and the necessary additional components are identified and briefly described. A few remarks are added showing the way a national focal point would relate to a European network.
