Abstract
One of the most characteristic features in the industry during the current decade is the decentralization of the business into a number of product oriented companies. This process will strongly affect the library functions. Decentralization of corporate libraries into smaller units will create difficulties for the library employees to keep and develop their competence. In turn this can be prejudicial to the technical and market development in the company. The possibilities for running libraries in this new industrial environment will be described. An analysis of the consequences of decentralization of the library functions in a large industrial company will also be presented.
