Abstract
This paper is based on development work at the Technical University of Graz implemented for the CEPT videotex environment. The work was supported by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Science and Research. A so-called ‘magazine method’ is used to download a prepared magazine of some ten to one hundred single information frames from a central videotex system into the MUPID II intelligent videotex decoder for subsequent offline information retrieval. The method leads to substantial savings in telecommunication costs, improves the speed of data transmission over the videotex network, and potentially enables the use of more sophisticated data-base search methods than used in classical videotex systems.
