Abstract
Research libraries play an essential role in the dissemination of information, both bibliographic and numerical, including acquisition, processing, cataloguing, retrieval, and document delivery. Most of these functions have been affected dramatically by the application of computer and other technology. Various printed tools and online services in genetic engineering and biotechnology are available to research libraries. The retrieval of periodical literature from print and online services is an essential aspect of bibliographic control. MIT library services have evolved in the light of new technology, and will continue to change as the libraries become an integral part of an evolving campus-wide computer and information network.
