Abstract
The development of numeric and factual data banks presents an opportunity for producers to develop close links with the user community in order to facilitate the provision of evaluated and collated data. EMIS (Electronic Materials Information Service) was launched by INSPEC, the Information Division of The Institution of Electrical Engineers, in 1981. Researchers active in the field of electronic materials have cooperated in the development of records for the electronic publication of materials data. These records and the contribution of researchers are discussed in this paper.
