Abstract
The US Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) has undertaken a program to automate, in full, its operations. This paper describes the Patent System-the process and the scope of the problem, the needs, and a summary of the Patent Automation Milestones. Finally, the accomplishments and status of the project are summarized, along with a brief discussion on the future Patent System.
