Abstract
Networking aspects for data communications are described with emphasis on network architecture, which is viewed as software. Networking-features including throughput, reliability, device-compatibility and cost-recovery are reviewed, but the role of network communications and control is emphasized. Approaches to the analysis of network requirements are given - with listings of equipment and costs - as are operational pitfalls, and definitions.
