Abstract
Following a brief review of the historical development of the modem computer, a survey of data-base applications is presented. Simple commercial/business types (e.g. accounting, inventory) are used to provide a background for computer data-base inadequacies and the systems projected to appear in the 80's. The SDC Records Manager system is given as an example.
