Abstract
A series of numerical analysis on the relative motions of two ships doing underway replenishment at seas are presented in this paper. The two-dimensional source distribution technique is employed to calculate the hydrodynamic coefficients. The final objective of this study is to apply the strip method, including the hydrodynamic interaction, for predicting the relative coupled motions and find criteria for underway replenishment. Two ship models, Series 60 and Mariner, are used for numerical calculation. Different wave heading, ship speed and clearance are considered and their effects are clearly observed by a systematic spectral analysis.
The results shown in the paper can be a reference for selecting suitable speed and clearance for two ships doing underway replenishment at different sea states.
