Abstract
The linear and nonlinear approaches to the evaluation of the motion of a spar buoy in regular waves are discussed. Advantages and disadvantages are compared. A nonlinear model used for the design of a meteo-ocean-ographic buoy is described. Its results are compared with experimental data, and the influence of the various nonlinear factors is discussed. Possible extensions of the model are indicated.
