Abstract
This paper presents the results of a computer-aided statistical analysis of Japanese ship contract price data from 1975 to 1979. A step-wise regression method was used to develop linear equations for estimating price and deadweight as functions of vessel design parameters. Price estimation models were developed for bulk carriers and general cargo ships. From the price equations, a comparison of calculated price to actual price is presented for each of those ship types. An example illustrates the utilization of the price estimation results. Deadweight estimation models are obtained for the above types plus container, RO/RO and tanker vessels.
