Abstract
A new mathematical model describing maneuvering motions of a ship is proposed in this paper, taking account of the results of detailed captive model tests. The new model consists of open-water characteristics of a hull, a propeller and a rudder individually and interaction terms among them according to the proposal of the group MMG [1,2,3,4,5] organized under the Maneuverability Subcommittee of JTTC.
Thereafter, as applications of the new model, the simulations of maneuvering motions of a model ship changing her speed are performed and the estimation of relations between her maneuverability and the area of a rudder is shown.
