Abstract
The major objective of this paper is to present the mean added drag data in regular and irregular waves computed by an improved version of Beck’s program (a computerized version of Maruo’s theory).
The added drag problem is defined and a brief review of the state of the art in this area is given with particular reference to theoretical model, and full-scale investigations.
The analysis of results of computed ship’s motions and mean added drag in regular and irregular waves suggests that, after some refinements, an extension of Maruo’s linear theory may be applied in estimating mean added drag on a more quantitative basis.
