Abstract
In this paper an experimental study on the stresses in the blades of Marine Propellers due to centrifugal forces and hydrodynamically generated steady and unsteady loadings has been presented.
The fundamental relations between the propeller blade stresses and the conditions of propeller loading, propeller speed and ship speed have been verified by means of model experiments. According to the general laws of similarity, extrapolation factors have been derived for the prediction of the stresses to be expected at full size.
Comparison of model and full – size – measurements for a firm verification of the presented methods, are strongly recommended.
