Abstract
Analytical methods are used to determine the pitch and heave motions in headwaves for three ship forms of the destroyer type. A computational method using a multiple coefficient transformation for the ship cross-sectional shapes is used. Transformation methods for arbitrarily shaped ship sections are discussed. The results front computation and experiment are compared. Agreement is found to depend significantly on the accuracy of the cross-section transformation. When the proper transformation is used, the influence of variation in hull shape on the motion can be accounted for.
Agreement between motion computation and experiment is excellent. Computed longitudinal distributions of damping, added mass and exciting forces arc discussed.
