Abstract
Free torsional-axial vibrations of a direct-connected propulsion system are determined for conditions where the coupling between the torsional and axial motion cannot be neglected.
The calculation is performed for an installation driven by a 10-cylinder 2-stroke diesel engine.
The effect of the thrust block stiffness and the crank sequence on the coupled motions is investigated.
