Abstract
It has been said that “our knowledge of viscous pressure resistance is completely inadequate”. The author thinks, however, that the physical mechanism of resistance caused by viscosity can be stated and that sufficient theoretical and experimental material on this question is available to start a statistical evaluation. – Satisfactory correlation between model- and full-scale resistance of hulls is found upon including the effects of shape, surface roughness and appendages.
