THE STATE OF THE ART IN MAN VS. "MACHINE" CHESS

Abstract

Watching DEEP JUNIOR’s output from the beginning to the end of all six games of its match against Kasparov was both an exciting and an instructive experience. During such an experience any serious chess player will have several thoughts about the program he is watching and about chess programming in general. This article summarizes the author's own thoughts and ideas during the match.
