Abstract
At the author’s request Belle analysed the pawnless endgames KQKRN and KQKRB. Results are communicated here and the endgames are shown to be in contrast. While for KQKRN all those positions not leading to routine draws provide us with easily understood algorithms, for KQKRB no such immediate transfer from database results to algorithm play was possible. Here, won positions require awkward or even bizarre move sequences to enforce the win.
