Abstract
A number of previously published win-in-n positions, n 6, for the KPK endgame with White to move is shown to be incorrect. The cause of this incorrectness appeared to be a single stalemate position, which was erroneously thought to be avoidable by underpromotion. This note shows that both the direct ancestor of the stalemate position (an additional move being required to avoid the stalemate) and a number of great (-great -etc.) ancestor positions (due to a knock-on effect) were rated wrongly, affecting all figures from win-in-1 to win-in-6.
