Abstract
In this work we report a study on dispersion compensation for combined FSK/ASK modulation formats. These combined modulation formats have been proposed recently for optically labeling of high speed IP packets through DWDM networks. Numerical simulation was used to optimize the transmission characteristics in terms of extinction ratio for the ASK signal, injected optical power and dispersion compensation ratio. We also demonstrate experimentally a transmission of a 155 Mbit/s FSK combined with a 10 Gbit/s ASK signal over 20 km of uncompensated SMF fiber with 1.3 dB power penalty, showing the possible application of this technique for photonic IP routing.
